Pipe Bending Machine:
This is a lightweight machine and is useful if you have a number of bends to make in a 15mm, 22mm or even 28mm diameter pipe, and can be hired. The machine incorporates a curved former for shaping the bend, and separate guide blocks for each pipe size. Swiss Cottage Plumbers will carry all these tools.

Hacksaw:
Used in either a large or small version for cutting most metals and plastics.

Half-Round File:
Use for smoothing the burred edges of a recently cut metal pipe.

Pipe Bending Springs:
Steel bending springs support the inside of copper pipe while it is bent by hand. The springs are sold in 15mm and 22mm sizes. A Swiss Cottage Plumber is qualified to use this and other tools.

Basin Wrench:
This wrench is also known as a crows-foot spanner and is used for tightening or loosening the back-nuts that are fitted to taps.

Pipe Cutter:
This is a quicker and more accurate way of cutting copper pipework than a hacksaw. It may have an adjustable slide for cutting tubes of different diameters, and a fixed cutting wheel. Some have a tapered reamer on the front for removing the burr from the inside of the cut pipe. A small circular cutter known as a pipe slice is useful for cutting pipes in situ. It is fitted around the pipe and rotated around the circumference of the pipe to make the cut.

Immersion Heater Spanner:
This is quite a large spanner and is specifically designed for the removal and refitting of the electrical heating element that is fitted in a hot water cylinder, usually in the loft space.

Wire Wool:
This product is used widely in the plumbing world to clean the inside of pipe ends before a joint is made. It can also be used to de-rust a pipe or metal work.
